Project Information

Gotvand Dam is one of the largest dams in Iran constructed on Karun River in the southwest of Iran. It is located in the 380th Km of the outfall of Karun River, 25th Km of the north of Shushtar City and 10th Km of the northeast of Gotvand City in Khuzestan Province. Gotvand Dam is the last constructable dam on Karun River. Having a reservoir with a capacity of 4,500,000,000 m3, the lake of this dam is the second large manmade lake in the nation after Karkeh. The height of this gravel-based dam with clay core is 182 m and it is the highest earth dam in the nation. Construction operations of this project started in 1997. This dam is the lowest downstream dam among the constructed and under construction dams over Karun River.
